Software Engineer - Java/Hadoop

POSITION SUMMARY / RESPONSIBILITIES

The position Semantic Research is hiring for will be based out of San Diego, CA. The Engineer will join our Semantica Enterprise engineering team and be a key contributor to the evolution of our product. He/She will participate in all facets of the software life cycle and should be ready to tackle any job that takes our products forward. We are looking for developers that can handle a fast paced and dynamic work environment. He/She will:

• Quickly adapt to any new technology necessary to create innovative solutions.
• Define, design, code, test and document product subsystems, as needed.
• Be able to work with light direction.
• Interact with customers, partners, senior management and other team members professionally, in writing, in person, and virtually, as necessary.

Light travel may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Successful candidates will have the skills, knowledge and confidence commensurate with the following experience:

• Relevant and recent Java coding experience
• Strong understanding of Java language fundamentals and core computer science concepts
• Experience developing in the Hadoop environment (HDFS/MapReduce)
• Experience building server side XML/JSON web services (REST, SOAP, etc.)
• Proficient using standard SCM and build tools such as Subversion, Ant, Maven, etc.

In addition the ideal candidate will have the following desired skills, but not required:

• Working knowledge of HBase and/or other Hadoop subprojects
• Experience working with large production Hadoop deployments
• Experience with search platforms such as Lucene / Solr
• Large scale ETL, data mining and analysis
• Excellent communications skills
• BS/MS in Computer Science or a related field
• Interest in Semantic Networks, Ontologies, NLP, machine learning
• Department of Defense (DoD) / Intelligence Community (IC) Experience
• Active Security Clearance
